Molson Vito’s Bruins 3   Jake’s Pub Battalion 3

The Molson Vito’s Bruins came within a last minute penalty of wrestling second place away from Jake’s Pub, but in the end had to settle for a 3-3 tie, and remain one point behind Jake’s, in third.

The teams played a scoreless first, and Bruins took a 2-1 lead into the third on goals from Craig MacKenzie and Chris HawkinsDaryl MacKenzie put the Bruins up 3-1 3:17 into the third.

But, back to back powerplay goals would result in the tie.  Andrew Kierstead had Jake’s first goal, in the final minute of the second.

WEEK NINETEEN - TUESDAY EDITION

Molson Vito’s Bruins 7   Port City Pawn Shop Pirates 5

Down 5-1 after two, the Port City Pawn Shop Pirates showed character down the stretch, battling back but falling just shy of picking up any points, falling 7-5 to the Molson Vito’s Bruins.

The Pirates picked up four goals in the third, including back to back powerplay goals on a two man advantage.

They pulled within one goal of the Vito’s on two occasions in the third, but Kamil Forgie had an empty netter to seal the win, his third of the night.

DJ Doucette had a hat trick for the Pirates; Matt MacEachern and Andrew Theriault with singles.

Auto Barn Wheelers 8   Rocky’s Moosehead’s 1

The Auto Barn Wheelers struck early and often, scoring in the first minute of play, building a 3-0 cushion before the game was two minutes old, and walking over Rocky’s Moosehead’s with an 8-1 final.

Alex McQuinn continues to hold onto first in the scoring race, picking up three assists on the night.

WEEK EIGHTEEN - THURSDAY EDITION

Auto Barn Wheelers 5   Molson Vito’s Bruins 4

Talk about last minute action … the league leading Auto Barn Wheelers took a penalty, coughed up the lead, and regained it … all in the last minute of play, in a 5-4 win over the Bruins.

The Wheelers were up 2-1 after one – the game was tied 3-all after two.

Scott Enright’s second of the game gave the Wheelers a 4-3 lead right at the midway point of the third.

Wheelers captain Geoff Cunningham was hit with an interference penalty with 50 seconds to go, and 7 seconds later, the Bruins cashed in – Chris Hawkins second of the game tied it at 4-4.

Rob Vincent was the other player on the night to score two … his second with 10 seconds to spare on a scramble would be the winner.

Ron Paley had the other Auto Barn goal.

Greg Connolly and Tim Mullett had the other Bruins goals.

Kacey’s Bud Lightning 7    Port City Pawn Shop Pirates 5

Allain Chaisson fired a hat trick, leading Kacey’s to a 7-5 win over the Pirates.

Chaisson moved within a single point of first in the scoring race with the hat trick, second only to Alex McQuinn of the Auto Barn … who had two assists in their 5-4 win over the Bruins.

Darren Anderson, Brett Guidry, Trevor Croft and Ryan McHugh had the other goals for Kacey’s – McHugh’s into an empty net with time winding down.

Matt Wayne had two goals and two assists for the Pirates. Jeremy Blizzard, DJ Doucette and Matt McEachern had one goal each.

WEEK EIGHTEEN - TUESDAY EDITION

Molson Vito’s Bruins 8   Rocky’s Moosehead’s 1

The Molson Vito’s pulled within three points of second place with an 8-1 thumping of the Moosehead’s.

The Moosehead’s had a short bench, with only two spares, not a good thing against the fast skating Vito’s.

Daryl MacKenzie and Kamil Forgie had two each -- Shawn McCarville, Craig MacKenzie, Chris Hawkins and Ben Scott one a piece for the Vito’s.

Adam Baxter broke Brian Feetham’s shutout bid with 2:04 left to play.

Kacey’s Bud Lightning 3    East Coast Moving 3

Kacey’s and East Coast played through a scoreless third period – both goalies making key saves to preserve a 3-3 tie.

Justin Leblanc robbed Kacey’s Ryan McHugh in tight at the midway point of the third with a glove save worthy of any highlight reel.

A little over a minute later it was Fred Gosselin’s turn – with a nice sprawling pad stack save off Donny Daley.

It was Gosselin’s first night back in the Kacey’s net after an extended absence.

WEEK SEVENTEEN - THURSDAY EDITION

East Coast Moving 5      Port City Pawn Shop Pirates 5

East Coast moving may be in the market for a new defenseman – they bumped Scott Johnson up from the blue line to play the wing in a matchup with the Pirates – and he scored four goals, leading East Coast to a 5-all tie.

East Coast carried a 5-1 lead into the third on Johnson’s work, and a single from Greg McLaughlin … but it all went south from there … the Pirates slowly but surely chipping away at that four goal defecit starting right around the midway mark of the third.

Matt Wayne was in on all five goals, scoring two and setting up three, including the tie goal, from Andrew Theriault with 24 seconds to spare.

Joel Douthwright and Matt Patterson had the other goals for the Pirates.

Jake’s Pub Battalion 8     Kacey’s Bud Lightning 4

Jake’s scored four in the first, four more in the third – and played a very physical game all night long in an 8-4 romp over Kacey’s.

The tone was set early with big hits in the first few shifts – Kacey’s Matt Forgie took the worst one, crushed by a monster open ice hit in front of the net by Bill Conway.

Christian Belliveau had a hat trick for Jake’s – singles came from Dan Backa, Billy Magee, Kyle Friars, Trent Savoie and Andrew Kierstead

Kacey’s got a pair from Ryan McHugh and one each from Brett Guidry and Andrew Beckingham.

WEEK SEVENTEEN - TUESDAY EDITION

Auto Barn Wheelers 5   Jake’s Pub Battalion 4

The Auto Barn Wheelers surrendered a 3-0 lead, but held on for a 5-4 win over Jake’s in a first place showdown.

The Wheelers were up 1-0 after one – on a goal from Tim Vincent – and by the 2:42 mark of the second had built the 3-0 nest egg on goals from Rob Vincent and Nick Palmer.

Jake’s would whittle away at it, but would never take the lead. Down 3-2 by the end of the second, and they tied it up for the first time, at the 34 second mark of the third.

Scott Enright put the Wheelers ahead again with a picture perfect top shelf shot 2:38 into the third.

Steve Mason capped a hat trick, tying it again at the 5:08 mark.  Andrew Kierstead had the only other goal for Jake’s.

Tom McHugh put the Wheelers ahead for good, scoring what held up to be the game winner with 5:12 to spare.

The Wheelers pulled back into a tie for first with Jake’s, although the Wheelers do have a game in hand.

The Wheelers had an easy go of it, with a 8-3 win over East Coast Moving. It was tight after one period, 3-2 in the Wheelers favor, but they pulled away after that, scoring three unanswered in the second, and a 2-1 edge in the third.

East Coast had one each from Greg McLaughlin, Donny Daley and Kirk Gilmore.

Rocky’s Moosehead’sJake’s Pub Battalion 1

Steve Mason lit the scoreboard first, scoring for Jakes 1:12 into the third, but the Moosehead’s were quick to respond, Kyle Stratton tieing it up less than a minute later.

With the Auto Barn Wheelers sitting out Tuesday night -- Jake’s regained first place in the standings with an easy 7-3 win over the Port City Pawn Shop Pirates.

The Pirates had no spares … but five of their best on the ice kept them competitive for the first period – coming out the first behind 2-1. From there, they started running out of gas … falling behind 5-1 after two, and both teams scored twice in the third for the 7-3 final.

Steve Mason had two for Jakes; Andrew Kierstead, Kyle Friars, Bill Conway, Christian Belliveau and Joe Savoie one each.

The Pirates got two from Matt Wayne, and one from Andrew Theriault.

Molson Vito’s Bruins 4   Kacey’s Bud Lightning 4

The Molson Vito’s found themselves in a deep hole quick, down 2-0 before the game was two minutes old, 3-0 at the 4:17 mark, but stormed back in the second half of the game for a 4-all tie with Kacey’s.

Matt Forgie opened the scoring for Kacey’s at the 1:25 mark, Tim Hay made it 2-zip 28 seconds later.

Jeff Jenkins scored Kacey’s third goal of the period.

From that point Karl Augustin was solid between the pipes for the Vito’s – with several key saves to keep the game within reach, and his teammates slowly but surely played catchup.

Ben Scott finally put the Vito’s on the board with 5:08 to spare in the second … but Kacey’s would regain their three goal spread with Matt Forgie’s second of the game, 26 seconds into the third.  From that point it was all Vito’s.

Kamil Forgie set up the next two goals, from Craig MacKenzie and Greg Connolly, and he scored the tie goal with 1:23 to spare.

THE LOWERY REPORT

WEEK FIFTEEN - TUESDAY EDITION

Jake’s Pub Batallion 3    Molson Vito’s Bruins 1

The Molson Vito’s scored early … but it would be the only goal they would get in a failed attempt to grab a share of second place with Jake’s Pub – the Battalion prevailing 3-1.

Craig MacKenzie opened the scoring 49 seconds into the game – but would be robbed by PJ Shea down the stretch with Jake’s up 2-1, and the Vito’s pressing hard for at least a tie.

Bill Conway put Jake’s on the board just past the midway mark of the second, and Dan Backa scored the winner with 2 minutes to go in the period.

Both goaltenders played strong games – Vito’s goalie Karl Augustin made at least a half dozen key saves in the third to keep his team within one.  Shea, after robbing MacKenzie with five minutes to play in the game, would do the same to a backhand shot from Scott Wentworth with 3:32 to play.

Along with two or three excellent saves down the stretch, he was helped with two or three pucks pinging off the post.

Jake’s third goal was fired into an empty net with 25 seconds to go in the game, off the stick of Andrew Kierstead.

Jake’s held a two point edge on the Bruins heading into the game, for second place in the standings.

Rocky’s Moosehead’s 4    East Coast Moving 4

Rocky’s Moosehead’s fought back from a 4-2 defecit, scoring two third period goals to salvage a 4-4 tie with East Coast Moving.

East Coast was up 3-1 after one, 4-2 after two on goals from Terry Flecknell, Donny Daley, Dave Cormier and Kirk Gilmore

Adam Baxter had the first two for the Moosehead’s, and fired the shot that led to the third goal, which Darren Langille was credited for, parked in front of the net looking for a rebound.

Kyle Stratton tied the game with 7:36 to spare.

East Coast played shorthanded for the final 2:52 of the game, but held on for the tie.

WEEK THIRTEEN - TUESDAY EDITION

Auto Barn Wheelers 5   Jake’s Pub Battalion 4

The Auto Barn Wheelers took their foot off the gas for less than two minutes – and barely held on for a 5-4 win, wrestling first place away from Jake’s Pub in the process.

The Wheelers were in command all game long, taking a 1-0 lead late in the first on Rob Vincent’s first of two on the night, and carried a 4-1 lead into the third on Vincent’s second, and singles from Alex McQuinn and Ron Paley.

Chris Melanson finally put Jake’s on the board, with 3:04 to play in the second.

Jake’s got into penalty trouble – and paid for it – the first three Wheeler goals were on the powerplay, one while two men up.

It looked like game over just shy of the midway mark of the third when Jared Fitzgerald scored his first, in his second game with the Wheelers – but Jake’s made it interesting down the stretch.

Shuttling their goalie in and out for the extra attacker, Jake’s scored three straight goals in less than a minute, starting with 1:22 left to play – Billy Magee making it 5-2.

13 seconds later, Steve Mason made it 5-3 off a faceoff deep in the Wheelers zone and Kyle Friars made it 5-4 with 27 seconds to spare, but that would be it for scoring.

Rocky’s Moosehead’sJake’s Pub 0

A pair of shutouts as the league wrapped up action prior to the Christmas break – Rocky’s Moosehead’s 1-0 win over Jake’s Pub the more entertaining of the two contests.  The Moosehead’s a scoreless first, and second, but it was not without scoring chances, or action.  A typical game between these two teams with plenty of hits, and good end to end action.

The only goal of the game came 40 seconds into the third.  Aaron Grant intercepted a pass in his own end and tore down the ice on a breakaway, pulling a nice deke on PJ Shea

The closest Jake’s came to a goal was within inches – the puck had made its way past Pat Carlson, and was slowly making its way to the goal line, but his defenceman Mike Baker swept through the crease, and cleared it away in the nick of time to preserve the shutout.

The Auto Barn Wheelers fell behind 2-1 in the first, turned it around for a one goal lead headed into the third, when they poured it on, and they needed it, surviving a high scoring affair, 8-5 the final over East Coast Moving.

Tim Vincent opened and closed the scoring for the Wheelers – in between there was a pair from Scott Enright, and singles from Nick Palmer, Alex McQuinn, Brian Cooper and Rob Vincent

Late in the third they had an 8-3 edge, but Donny Daley scored two in the late stages for East Coast … and they came close to making it a two goal game with just under 30 seconds to spare.

Terry Flecknell had a pair for East Coast, Andrew O’Hanley the other one.

On Thursday evening league play continues at the Belyea Arena when the Bruins tackle the Lightning at 8:30 followed at 9:45 by East Coast Moving and the expansion Port City Pawn Shop Pirates.

WEEK THREE - SUNDAY EDITION

Jake’s Pub 4     Port City Pawn Shop Pirates 2

Jake’s Pub took over first place in the standings, and remain one of two undefeated teams on the season after a 4-2 win over the Pirates.

The Pirates struck first, 4 minutes into the first, and it was the first of two on the night for Jamie Brown.

Jakes evened it up quickly just a little over a minute later, the tie goal from Trent Savoie, who is off to a quick start, leading the league in scoring.

Kyle Friars put Jakes ahead 2:29 into the second, and then set up Bill Conway for the winner a couple of minutes later.

Brown’s second midway through the third appeared to set the stage for a interesting finish, but Dan Backa restored the two goal cushion with a short handed marker less than a minute later.

Kacey’s Bud Lightning 4      Auto Barn Wheelers 1

Allain Chaisson fired a hat trick, powering Kacey’s to a 4-1 win over the Auto Barn Wheelers.

Brian Cooper scored first, putting the Wheelers on the board 2:02 into the second, Tim Hay tied it for Kaceys with 4:17 to play in the second, and then Chaisson went to work, the winner scored 30 seconds after Hay’s marker … and two insurance goals in the third.

Kacey’s remains undefeated, at 2-0-and-3, in third, one point back of the second place Vito’s,  just two points back of Jake’s in first.

EWSHL regular season action continues on Tuesday evening at the Hurley Arena when East Coast Moving takes on the Auto Barn Wheelers at 9:45 followed at 11:00 by the Mooseheads and Jakes Pub.

WEEK THREE - THURSDAY EDITION

Jake’s Pub 4     Molson Vito’s Bruins 1

Jake’s Pub handed the Molson Vito’s Bruins the first blemish on their record this season – a 4-1 final.

The Vito’s started the season with four straight wins – Jakes remains undefeated and pulls within a point of the first place Vito’s, with a game in hand.  Jake’s now 3-0-and-1 on the season.

Kyle Friars had a pair to lead Jake’s who got another top notch performance in net from PJ Shea – his shout out bid busted late in the game by Derek Robinson, with 3:08 to play.

Trent Savoie and Andrew Kierstead had the other goals for Jakes.

Rocky’s Moosehead’s 2     East Coast Moving 2

Rocky’s Moosehead’s looked to be riding an outstanding game in net from Matt Daley to a win … but a freak bounce in the third busted a 2-0 shutout and East Coast bounced back with another to salvage a point in a 2-all tie with the Moosehead’s.

Daley was strong all night, especially in close – just ask East Coast captain Andrew O’Hanley – who had one ready to be written on the scoresheet, shooting stick side on a scramble in close,  but Daley reached back and batted it away with his stick, mid air. O’Hanley would later ring one off the post.

The shutout buster would come a short time after Daley robbed O’Hanley, the puck bouncing off a skate and by Daley, credit to East Coast’s Greg McLaughlin – who fed Alex Quinn for the tie goal with 2:14 to play, a nice shot up high glove side.

Just prior to that East Coast goalie Justin Leblanc kept his team in the game, beating Darren Langille on a deke attempt, throwing a pad down to block an attempt to stuff it in low stick side.

Aaron Haines and Jason O’Brien had the Moose goals, both in the second period.

WEEK THREE - TUESDAY EDITION

Molson Vito’s Bruins 3   Port City Pirates 0

The defending league champion Molson Vito’s Bruins remain one of three undefeated teams in the early going of the 2009-2010 season – reeling off four straight wins, the latest a 3-zip shutout of the expansion Port City Pawn Shop Pirates.  And, they did it with only one spare on the bench.

Daryl MacKenzie’s first period goal would turn out to be all they needed behind the shutout goaltending of Brian Feetham.

Kamil Forgie made it 2-0 in the second. Craig MacKenzie fired the final goal in the third.

Auto Barn Wheelers 6    Rocky’s Moosehead’s 2

Tim Vincent fired a pair of goals, and Kyle MacDonald provided some key saves mid game with the Moosehead’s pressing – leading the Auto Barn Wheelers to a 6-2 win.

Ron Paley opened the scoring, Vincent had the second, and third for the Wheelers, the latter holding up as the winner.

McDonald had a handful of key saves in the second, allowing the Wheelers to carry a three goal spread into the third, up 5-2 at that point.

Rob Vincent, Alex McQuinn and Brian Cooper had the other Wheeler goals.

Aaron Grant and Darren Langille replied for Rocky’s Moosehead’s.
